2 year plan 2012 to Fall 2013

So in moving to be proactive in my current position in life…time for critical and hopeful goal setting…

Vision: Dedicating my life and labor in investigating the social world as it relates to the experiences of Filipina/o/Americans, Asian/Americans, and other POC under the analyses of race, class, gender, sexuality. Uncovering epistemologies of resistance, survival, and production of culture—examining contradictions, but synthesizing new knowledge as a cultural production in itself for our community—AND STILL KEEPING IT CUTE IN ALL ASPECTS OF LIFE.

Longterm (By Fall 2013 and beyond):

  • Attending Doctorate programs by Fall 2013 in Sociology/Cultural Anthropology/Ethnic Studies at (but not limited to) either UCLA, USC, UC Berkeley, UCSD…
  • FINALLY study abroad/travel in Southeast Asia.
  • Published articles
  • Obtain Ph.D. by 2018
  • Tenure track 0_0
  • Publish a book
  • Engaging myself in some community space having to do with the arts/performance.
  • Still maintaining a healthy fitness level.
  • Visiting family more often.
  • Maintaining positive and meaningful relationships I’ve made along the way.

Short Term (From now until Fall 2013):

  • Finish editing and submit thesis to SFSU (being an official MA in Asian Am. Studies)—by mid or end of February
  • Get a full time job (paper chase to pay den billssss)—by mid or end of February.
  • Plan and prepare for presentation at AAASConference in DC in April—by end of February or early March
  • Study and take the GRE —April to September
  • Start making initial contacts with schools and programs—April to September
  • Plan 5 years for family affairs—finances, buying a house, school stuff, mom. (April to Sept)
  • Apply to schools and programs by December 2012
  • Present at next year’s AAAS conference—Spring 2013
  • Maintain friendships and become more present in old Alumni network (high school, UCLA, and SFSU)—constant
  • Maintain health and fitness level—constant
  • Grow personally with my significant other
  • Maintain my side job building in food/service industry—potential bar tending—pending on when I have my Full time job and finances handled.
  • Finding some engagement in the community (my Third Shift of labor) whether it is with youth, public health, education, arts, etc…
